NIKE: Kobe Shoe Launch
Nike Inc, a major publicly traded sportswear and equipment supplier based in the United States. The company is headquartered near Beaverton, Oregon. It is the world's leading supplier of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment. The company was founded on January 25, 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports byBill Bowerman and Philip Knight, and officially became Nike, Inc. On May 30, 1978. The company takes its name from Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. In addition to manufacturing sportswear and equipment, the company operates retail stores under the Niketown name. Nike sponsors many high profile athletes and sports teams around the world, with the highly recognized trademarks of "Just do it" and the Swoosh logo.
AoSA was excited to work with Nike on this project in an effort to help “green” a large company like Nike. We were brought on to create a 20 feet by 40 feet print of all star Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant, an American basketball player who plays shooting guard for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association has won countless tiles and awards including All Star MVPs, All Star slam dunk award, regular season MVP, an Olympic gold metal, and five NBA championship rings. The print was done on 100% post consumer water bottles and installed by the AoSA team. The print grazed the center of the Montalban Theatre and was set to kick off the new Kobe Bryant Shoe line for Nike.
HOW THE CHANGE WAS MADE
AoSA used a textile from the Aurora Textile collection Weaves of Green collection, which are composed of 100% post-consumer recycled polyester for this Nike project. The fiber source is recycled from plastic drinking bottles. Unlike other “recycled” polyester fabrics on the market Weaves Of Green fabrics are 100% post-consumer content so using these fabrics has a real, positive impact on the waste stream and our environment.
