FREESTANDING DISPLAYS: NBC UNIVERSAL Bamboo Stands

NBC UNIVERSAL: Bamboo Stands

Launched in May 2007, “Green Is Universal” is NBCUniversal’s ongoing green initiative dedicated to raising Green awareness, affecting positive change to the environment, and greening its own operations. Throughout the year, NBCUniversal uses it numerous media and entertainment platforms to educate the public on the environment, with over 200 hours of green-themed content airing across over 40 NBCU brands.  In two dedicated weeks (Earth Week in April and Green Week in November) the Networks of NBCUniversal work together to bring this message to consumers in a way that educates and informs in an entertaining manner.

Green Week was set to launch the week of November 13, 2011 and Aosa was brought on to create environmentally friendly signage.  The result was easily transportable bamboo L stands with banners woven from 100% post consumer waste PET and printed with water-based dyes. The fabric, which functions as the banner, was fabricated in South Carolina by southern industrial mills and has 80-90% domestic post consumer PET. The ink was mixed in San Diego and is 98% water 2% dye.  The dowel on the L Stands allows for easy replacement of fabric for future events minimizing the carbon footprint.

HOW THE CHANGE WAS MADE

NBCUniversal understands that every small step and effort makes a difference; the management use of consumption of the resources used to make this signage will lessen the footprint moving towards sustainability and social change.
